Course Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years’ old
  • Must be certified as a PADI Assistant Instructor or equivalent
  • Must have medical clearance signed by a physician
  • Must have 100 logged dives
  • Must be a certified diver for at least 12 months
  • Must be an EFR Instructor
  • Have an enthusiastic attitude and want to have FUN!

Course Topics

Over a minimum of five days, the IDC teaches you to conduct all PADI core courses. You’ll be able to organize and present information, conduct skill development sessions and control open water dives. Basically, you become a better public speaker and get really good at demonstrating skills while watching out for student diver safety. Key topics include:

  • PADI Standards and Procedures for courses you can teach with in water workshops
  • Learning, Instruction and the PADI System
  • Risk Management and Diver Safety
  • The Business of Diving and your role as an instructor
  • Marketing Diving and Sales Counseling

Diving Equipment Needed

You will need all of your own equipment, which includes mask, snorkel, fins, boots, gloves, wetsuit with hood, BCD, regulator with alternate air source and computer, cylinder, weight belt with weights. Rental of this equipment is NOT included in your course fees!

You will need to purchase the following to complete your class:

  • PADI IDC Training Package
  • PADI Dive Theory Online
  • PADI Diving Knowledge Workbook
  • eRDPml and RDP Table
  • Professional Logbook

Course Scheduling

Orientation: Two hours of course logistics, paperwork, scheduling and equipment fitting

Classroom: Four classroom sessions of 4 hours each, to help you develop PADI teaching presentations, increase your diving knowledge and dive theory

Pool: Four pool sessions of 4 hours each, consisting of developing your confined water and rescue skills to teaching level, as well as presenting your PADI confined water presentations
Open Water Dives: One day at the open water, where you will give your PADI presentations

Your Instructor will sit down and design a schedule to assist you with completing your program.
